Summer Camp Time, Remember to pack a Toothbrush, Floss and Good Habits!
Summer Camp is a great experience for your children. It’s an opportunity to explore, have fun, meet friends and build independence – a perfect time to reinforce lessons learned at home even personal hygiene habits like dental care. A little planning for camp will help prevent cavities, broken braces and daily lapses in oral care.
Packing Checklist for Your Camper:
· Soft -bristled toothbrush, travel cap or ventilated holder
· Fluoride toothpaste
· Floss or floss picks (pre-threaded picks for easy use)
· Small bottle of mouthwash (age-appropriate, if allowed)
· Spare toothbrush and extra toothpaste
· Orthodontic supplies if needed: wax, floss threader, orthodontic brush
· Waterproof labeled pouch for hygiene items
Daily Routine Tips:
· Encourage brushing twice daily (after breakfast and before bed) for two minutes
· Floss once daily – floss picks are easier for kids and reduce missed surfaces
· Remind kids not share dental items
Food, Snacks and Water
· Encourage low-sugar snacks (nuts, cheese, veggies) when possible and avoid sticky candies that cling to teeth.
· Encourage hydration, especially regular water intake. Water helps rinse away food and sugar and supports saliva flow.
Braces, Retainers and Mouthguards
· Send clear written care instructions for braces, retainers or appliances.
· Include orthodontic wax, extra elastics and instructions for handling loose brackets
· If your child will be playing contact sports, send a properly fitted mouthguard.
Before Camp
